Trendy Chicago Eats: August Recap

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

This month unfortunately featured a lack of rooftop brunches, but have no fear - it was made up for by a healthy variety in happy hours and #views.

That's right Chicago, we're back at it again with the trendy eats. This month's favorite finds?

Lunch/Dinner Eats

// The Hampton Social
353 W Hubbard St, Chicago, IL 60654 || $$$

Bringing the joie de vivre of the Hamptons right into River North, the Hampton Social is a fresh step out of the city and onto the East Coast. The preppy, nautical decor makes you feel like your socializing at the friendly neighborhood yacht club, while the menu offers up seafood and cocktails. This is also a great happy hour stop as they offer half price rosé and pizzas from 3-6 pm Mondays-Fridays. Sip on some rosé under their famous 'rosé all day' neon sign!

2878 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60657 || $

This health food spot serves up a fresh take on lunch (and brunch). Their menu is crafted of unique salads, grain bowls, wraps, and juices, which is a breath of fresh air. This place actually makes me crave a salad because they look so good, which I think we can all agree that when that happens, they must be doing something right. Enjoy an acai bowl or avocado toast for breakfast, or a farro grain salad for lunch, or a juice for the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. I had the Farmer's Market salad, which was not only delcious, it came dressed with chive blossoms - aka edible flowers. You bet I Instagram-ed it. #basic

//  Carnivale
702 W Fulton St, Chicago, IL  60661 || $$

Carnivale is a fun Nuevo Latino restaurant in the West Loop that offers a vibrant global atmosphere. The food is a fusion of South American, Spanish, and Caribbean cuisine, and the restaurant is colorful and chic. Come for dinner, stay for the many fun events that Carnivale offers (from live music to Brazilian Summer Night Bites), or even host a private social event of your own.

// Amorino Gelato
838 N State St, Chicago, IL 60610 || $

I'll admit, this isn't necessarily a local choice as there are Amorino boutiques in a couple cities across the US. But we'll overlook that because... flower shaped gelato! Gelato. In the shape of a flower. They literally scoop your gelato to look like a blooming rose in your cone. And you can get a macaron on top of said gelato rose. This is the type of art I'm talking about people! Why aren't we investing more in this??

Happy Hour

John Hancock Center 96 Floor, 875 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60611 || $$$

The Signature Lounge offers, hands down, the BEST view of Chicago. And if that doesn't sell you, then I don't know what will. The Lounge, as well as the accompanying Signature Room restaurant, may be a tad more expensive than I usually like to spend on happy hour, but again you are paying for the view and it's worth it (plus, it's free to take the elevator ride up to the 96th floor - which is a great alternative if you don't want to spend money on tourist attractions like 360 Chicago, which is actually on the 94th floor). From one room, the view extends over Lake Michigan. From another, you can look down on the roofs of skyscrapers below as you tower over 1000 feet above Michigan Ave.

That sums up August!
What are some of your fave Windy City dines and wines?
